Lawn mower blades are made either of mild steel, tool steel or carbon steel. Their edges however are all made of tool steel so that they remain sharp for a long time without having to sharpen them too often. Blades that are entirely made of tool steel will generally cost more, and you usually cannot sharpen them in your own workshop. On the other hand, carbon and mild steel blades are cheaper and easier to maintain.
